Air Fryer Egg Toast, also known as Egg in a Hole or Egg in a Basket, is the ultimate quick breakfast! Ready in under 10 minutes with just 2 ingredients (plus seasoning), it’s crispy, delicious, and completely fuss-free.
This nostalgic breakfast brings back so many memories—my mom used to make it all the time, and it’s still a favorite in my kitchen today. The air fryer version takes it to the next level: perfectly golden toast, set egg whites, and a runny yolk you can dip into. Plus, the air fryer makes it easier than ever—less mess, less effort, and fast results!
It’s also a kid-approved recipe and can be customized with cheese or toppings for extra flavor. Breakfast time just got a whole lot better.
Ingredients
- 1 large egg
- 1 slice of bread (thicker slices work best, such as Brownberry or Dave’s Killer Bread)
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- Optional: shredded cheese for a cheesy twist
Instructions
- Spray your air fryer basket with cooking spray.
- Place the bread inside. Using a glass, press down the center to create an indent (don’t cut through).
- Crack an egg into the indent. It’s fine if some egg white spills over. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Air fry at 340°F for 8 minutes for a runny yolk with fully cooked whites.
- Add cheese during the last minute if you’d like a cheesy egg toast.
- Remove with a spatula, serve warm, and enjoy!
Cooking Time Guide
- 7 minutes → runny yolk + slightly soft whites
- 8 minutes → runny yolk + set whites (my favorite!)
- 9 minutes → firmer yolk + fully set whites
Pro Tips
- Use thicker bread slices for a sturdier base.
- Want a fun twist? Add bacon crumbles, hot sauce, or avocado slices on top before serving.
- Make 2–4 at once in your air fryer basket to feed the whole family quickly.
